The Instructor Development Course qualification is required for teaching the ABC (America’s Boating Course) in order to comply with NASBLA (National Association Of Boating Law Administration).  In order to successfully pass the Instructor Development course, and be an America’s Boating Club Certified Instructor, the students must plan and teach a subject, then take an exam. The students enrolled in Instructor Development will plan and teach a chapter of the Boat Handling Course to fulfill the Instructor Development Course lesson plan and teaching requirements.

The Boating Handling Course is very important because it enables students to have their grades displayed. If you pass the Boating Handling you have the grade of Seaman (S), but if you pass Marine Navigation (Piloting) before passing Boating Handling, you won’t have your grade of P displayed until you pass the Boating Handling course, and so on.  It is essential that the students pass Boating Handling in order to have their much-earned grade attached to their name/signature.
