What is a MARINER’S NEEDLE?  A Mariner’s Needle is a type of compass needle that is designed to function accurately even in the presence of a strong magnetic field, such as those found near large metal objects or in areas with high levels of electromagnetic interference. The needle is typically mounted on a pivoting axis and enclosed in a protective case, with markings on the case indicating the cardinal directions (north, south, east, and west).

The design of a mariner’s needle allows it to maintain its alignment with the Earth’s magnetic field, which makes it an important navigational tool for sailors and other seafarers. By using a mariner’s needle, a navigator can determine the direction in which their vessel is moving and make any necessary course corrections to stay on course. (Thanks to Chat GPT for this info)
